How to Maximize the Use of Your Lawn Sprinklers

A lawn sprinkler system is a great investment. Having a sprinkler system to provide your lawn with the nourishment it needs is a great way to get a healthy yard.

But you’ll want to be sure that you’re using your lawn sprinklers to the right level.

Too little, and your grass will start to dry up and brown. Too much and your yard will turn into a swamp. Not to mention your water bill will go up substantially.

If you’re not sure how to get the most of your sprinkler system, keep reading. Here are some of the best ways you can get more for less.

How to Maximize the Use of Your Lawn Sprinklers

1. Come Up With a Plan of Attack

The first thing you’ll want to do is make sure your sprinkler system is situated correctly. Depending on the shade, some areas of your lawn will likely need more water than others.

If you’re having a hard time doing this yourself, don’t forget you can get some help. Sometimes it’s better to trust a professional.

That way you can be sure you’re conserving as much water as possible in a responsible manner.

But maybe you’re planning on using your old sprinkler system. That’s okay, too! Just make sure that you’ve kept up with routine maintenance and that your irrigation system is still functional.

2. Pay Attention to Weather Patterns

Paying attention to your local weather is one of the best ways to maximize your lawn sprinkler. If you’re in an area that receives a lot of rain, for instance, you may not need to water your lawn as much.

As it turns out, using Mother Nature is one of the best ways you can save some money.

Likewise, if you’re in a tropical climate with frequent humidity, that can affect your watering schedule, too.

3. Water in the Morning or Evening

First and foremost, be sure that you’re familiar with your area’s watering restrictions. Some areas of the U.S. have stricter rules than others. It’s always a good idea to check ahead of time to be safe.

If you really want to make your lawn look lush and beautiful, be sure to water it in the early morning and late evening. Think sunrise and sundown.

Morning, in particular, is a great time to use your lawn sprinklers, as the air is cooler. The incoming sunlight will make it easier for your soil to absorb the water from your sprinklers.

4. Know Your Soil Type

It’s also important that you keep in mind which type of soil you’re watering. Different types of soil will need different amounts of water.

This can vary anywhere from 1.5 inches to around 6.

5. You Don’t Need to Water Your Lawn as Much as You Think

A lot of people tend to use their lawn sprinklers multiple times a week. But this can actually do more harm than good. Sure, you’ll want to keep your grass watered, but remember, there’s such a thing as too much.

On average, you only really need to water your lawn around 2 to 3 times a week at the absolute most. Really, you can get away with 1 to 2.
